Sam and the Tigers By Julius Lester

This book is about a boy named Sam, who lives in a place where everyone is named Sam. He goes to the market with his mother and father and asks them to buy him a complete new outfit to wear for school. They aren't the type of clothing that people would normally wear, but he is so excited about them that he decides to walk to school with them on. On his way to school he encounters a tiger who wants to eat him and Sam persuades the tiger to take a piece of his clothing in exchange for his life. He compliments the tiger and goes on with his walk to school. As he continues to school a tiger after another keeps coming and until he is left with only his underwear. He becomes upset that he doesn't have any more of his new clothing and notices that the Tigers begin to fight with each other. They are fighting about who looks better in their piece of clothing and while the Tigers are distracted Sam finds a way to collect all the clothing as they fall  off. I think this is a good book to teach the children about imagination because in the books there's also animals that act like they are humans and as if they're shopkeepers and they like to wear humans clothing. I just thought it was a fun thing to show the kids. As an activity for the kids I would have them think up their favorite animal and make them do human things. As a separate activity I would also have them explain what they would do if they were in Sams position.
